Search "best restaurant billing software" and you will find a dozen lists, most written by a software company that ranks itself first. This one is written by a software company too. We make Touch4Bill, a restaurant billing software used by messes, biryani shops, cafes and food courts across Tamil Nadu.
So rather than tell you we are the best, this guide does something more useful. It explains what each well-known option is built for, so you can rule out the ones that don't fit your restaurant and test the two or three that do.
How we wrote this: Competitor descriptions are based on each company's own public positioning as of October 2026. Most vendors, including the large ones, don't publish fixed restaurant prices, so we have not quoted their prices. Always get a written quote for your exact setup.
Quick answer: which software fits which restaurant
| Your restaurant | Shortlist |
|---|---|
| Single outlet or 2–5 outlets in Tamil Nadu, want local setup and support | Touch4Bill, GoFrugal |
| Growing brand anywhere in India that wants a large integration ecosystem | Petpooja |
| Large chain or franchise network with 50+ outlets, possibly abroad | Restroworks |
| Café or QSR that wants QR ordering and its own online store first | DotPe, Touch4Bill |
| Business that mixes a restaurant with retail or a supermarket | GoFrugal, Touch4Bill |
| Takeaway counter or tiny kiosk, no tables, no kitchen printer | A general GST billing app may be enough |
8 things every restaurant billing software must do
Before comparing brands, be clear on what the software has to do in your restaurant. If a product fails any of these for your format, cross it off.
- Bill fast at peak hours. Five common items should take seconds, not a minute. Time it in the demo.
- Send KOTs to the kitchen. Orders should reach a kitchen printer or kitchen display automatically, split by section if you have more than one (for example, tandoor and juice counter).
- Manage tables. For dine-in, you need a floor view with occupied, billed and free tables, plus split bills and table merge or transfer.
- Get GST right. Most standalone restaurants charge 5% GST without input tax credit. Bills must show the CGST and SGST split and your GSTIN, and the software should export data for GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B. Our GST tips for restaurants covers the details.
- Keep working offline. Internet and power cuts are a fact of life. Bills should be saved locally and synced later, so the counter never stops.
- Pull in Swiggy and Zomato orders. Re-typing online orders causes mistakes and wrong stock. Online orders should land in the same billing and kitchen flow.
- Track ingredients, not just items. Recipe-based stock (for example, rice and chicken per biryani) is how you see real food cost and wastage. Try our free food cost calculator to see the idea.
- Show the owner the numbers. Daily sales, item-wise sales, payment modes and staff reports, on your phone, from anywhere.
Popular restaurant billing software in India, compared
These are the names restaurant owners in India most often ask us about. They are listed by the kind of restaurant they suit, not in a ranking.
Touch4Bill: for single and multi-outlet restaurants in Tamil Nadu
Yes, this is us. Touch4Bill is a cloud restaurant billing software built in Chennai. It covers billing, KOT, table management, GST, QR ordering, Swiggy and Zomato orders, WhatsApp bills, recipe-based inventory and multi-branch reports, and it keeps billing offline.
- Best for: messes, biryani shops, family restaurants, cafes, food courts and small chains in Tamil Nadu that want same-day setup and support from a local team.
- Pricing: published. ₹999/month for a single terminal and ₹1,999/month for the Professional plan with KOT and tables, plus GST. Yearly plans save 20%. See pricing.
- Check before buying: if you run 50+ outlets across several countries, an enterprise platform may suit you better.
Petpooja: for restaurants that want a large ecosystem
Petpooja is one of the most widely used restaurant POS brands in India, and it says more than 100,000 restaurants bill on it. It offers billing, inventory, online order integrations and reporting, with a large range of add-on modules and third-party integrations.
- Best for: restaurants and growing brands anywhere in India that want a well-known platform with many integrations.
- Pricing: not published as a fixed rate card; it depends on the plan and add-ons you pick. Ask for a written quote that lists every module.
- Check before buying: which features are in your plan and which are paid add-ons, and how local support works in your city.
Restroworks (formerly Posist): for large chains
Posist rebranded as Restroworks and positions itself as an enterprise restaurant platform for chains, franchise networks and multi-location brands, including international QSR brands. It covers POS, inventory, kitchen automation, analytics and online ordering with central control.
- Best for: chains with many outlets that need head-office control, central menus and deep integrations.
- Pricing: quote-based.
- Check before buying: for a single outlet or a small group, an enterprise platform can be more than you need, in both features and cost.
GoFrugal ServeEasy: for restaurants with retail or heavy inventory
GoFrugal is a Chennai-based company, now part of Zoho, known first for retail POS and ERP. Its restaurant product, ServeEasy, brings that inventory and back-office strength to restaurants.
- Best for: businesses that run both food and retail, or restaurants that need detailed purchase and stock control.
- Pricing: varies by edition and modules; ask for a quote.
- Check before buying: how quickly staff can bill at the counter during rush hour, since retail-first products can feel different from restaurant-first ones.
DotPe: for QR ordering and digital-first cafés
DotPe is built around QR ordering and payments. Diners scan a table QR code, order and pay from their phone, and the restaurant also gets a POS, an online store and Swiggy/Zomato integration.
- Best for: cafés and quick-service restaurants where self-ordering by QR is the main way customers order.
- Pricing: quote-based.
- Check before buying: offline billing and printer support, if your counter must keep running during internet cuts.
General GST billing apps: for takeaway counters
General billing and accounting apps (Vyapar is a well-known example) are built for shops and traders. They create GST invoices and manage stock and accounts well.
- Best for: takeaway counters and kiosks with no tables or kitchen printer.
- Check before buying: whether it handles KOT, tables, Swiggy/Zomato orders and recipe-based stock, which dine-in restaurants usually need.
Tip: Shortlist two or three products from the table above, then run the same test in every demo: bill your five best-selling items, send a KOT, split a bill, and switch off the Wi-Fi. The right choice usually becomes obvious in 15 minutes.
What restaurant billing software really costs
The monthly subscription is only part of the bill. Compare the total yearly cost for your exact setup:
- Subscription: monthly or yearly, usually per outlet. Yearly plans are often cheaper.
- GST on the software: software subscriptions attract 18% GST, which many price lists show separately.
- Extra terminals: a second billing counter, a captain phone or a kitchen display may count as an extra device.
- Add-on modules: KOT, inventory, CRM, online-order integration and multi-outlet reports are sometimes extra.
- Online ordering fees: ask whether any per-order or transaction fee applies to Swiggy, Zomato, QR or online-store orders.
- Setup and training: some vendors include menu upload and training; others charge for it.
- Contract terms: check the lock-in period, notice period and price-increase terms before signing.
Ask each vendor to put all of this in a written quote. Two quotes that look similar per month can differ a lot per year.
10 questions to ask in every demo

- Can I split a bill and move a table without re-entering the order?
- Does my GST bill show the CGST/SGST split, GSTIN and SAC code correctly?
- Can I export data for GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B?
- How does recipe-based stock work for my top dish?
- Which features in this demo are not in the plan you are quoting?

- If I call support during Saturday dinner rush, who answers and in which language?
Hardware you will need
Most modern restaurant billing software, including Touch4Bill, runs in a browser, so you can start with what you already own.
- Billing device: a Windows PC, an Android tablet or even an Android phone.
- Bill printer: a thermal printer (2-inch or 3-inch). You can also skip paper and send bills on WhatsApp.
- KOT printer or kitchen display: for dine-in restaurants, so orders reach the kitchen automatically.
- Phones for waiters: optional, for taking orders at the table.
- Cash drawer and barcode scanner: optional; the scanner matters more if you also sell packaged retail items.
FAQs
Which is the best restaurant billing software in India?
The best restaurant billing software depends on your format and size. Large chains usually look at enterprise platforms such as Restroworks, growing brands across India often consider Petpooja, businesses mixing retail and food look at GoFrugal, and single or multi-outlet restaurants in Tamil Nadu that want local setup and support often choose Touch4Bill. Shortlist two or three and test them with your own menu.
How much does restaurant billing software cost in India?
Costs vary by vendor, plan and add-ons, and most large vendors quote on request. Touch4Bill publishes its prices: ₹999/month for a single terminal and ₹1,999/month for the Professional plan with KOT and table management, plus GST. Always compare the total yearly cost, including add-ons, extra terminals, online-order fees and GST.
Is there free restaurant billing software?
Free billing apps exist, but they usually lack KOT, table management, Swiggy and Zomato integration, offline mode and support. They can work for a small takeaway counter. A dine-in restaurant usually saves more in speed and fewer mistakes than a paid plan costs.
What is the difference between restaurant billing software and a restaurant POS?
In India the two terms are used almost interchangeably. Billing software often means the billing screen and GST invoice, while a restaurant POS usually also includes KOT, table management, inventory, online orders and reports. When comparing, check the feature list rather than the label.
Can restaurant billing software work without internet?
Some can. Software with an offline mode saves bills locally during an internet or power cut and syncs them to the cloud when the connection returns. Ask every vendor to demonstrate this by switching off the Wi-Fi during the demo.
Which GST rate applies to restaurant bills?
Most standalone restaurants in India charge 5% GST without input tax credit, split equally into CGST and SGST for in-state customers. Restaurants inside hotels with higher room tariffs can fall under a different rate, so confirm your rate with your accountant and set it in your billing software.
The next step
Pick two or three options from the quick-answer table, book demos in the same week, and run the same test in each. If you run a restaurant in Tamil Nadu, we'd be glad to be one of them: we'll set up a few of your dishes and show you billing, KOT, GST bills and owner reports on your own menu.
